(1/6) The Department of URP organized an online seminar entitled “International Lecture Series: Community Climate Change Resilience”. This seminar is the third series of the Urban and Regional Scientific Forum (USRF) which was previously held on 5 May. USRF is a discussion forum held by the Department of URP to improve the academic atmosphere at the international level especially those related to regional and urban issues
At this event, the Department of URP invited Assistant Professor from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Kharagpur, Jenia Mukherjee, Ph.D, as the invited lecturer. In addition, Dr. Ir. Artiningsih, M.Si was also assigned as the speaker from the Department of URP Undip. While Mada Sophianingrum, S.T, M.T, M.Sc was chosen as the moderator in this discussion.
Community resilience in facing climate change was chosen as the main topic because it is related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in which the Department of URP Undip is one of the institutions that consistently supports the implementation of these goals. In this discussion, Ms. Jenia presented a topic about community empowerment in Sundarban which is located in the transboundary area of India and Bangladesh. While Bu Artiningsih presented a topic on adaptation done by the community in the coastal areas of Central Java.
Jenia Mukherjee, Ph.D, as one of the speakers, expressed her gratitude for the existence of this forum. For her, this event is important as a forum to share knowledge and ideas related to urban issues such as resilience efforts in facing the climate change. “I would like to give thank for the offer that the University (Undip) had given to me. Thank you for organizing this event,” she said.
Prof. Dr-Ing. Wiwandari Handayani, S.T, M.T, MPS, the Head of the Department of URP, also thanked the organizers for holding this discussion. She hoped that after this online seminar, there will be some interesting researches emerges that related to the subject discussed in this event. “I would like to express my gratitude to Ms Jenia and the organizers for organizing this event well. And I am looking forward for some interesting researches related to this subject after this event,” said Prof. Wiwandari.
(31/5) PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering Undip held a workshop and kick-off meeting in Engineering Hall, Dekanat Building 5th Floor. This event is a follow-up to the collaborative actions between PT Pertamina Hulu Energi and the Faculty of Engineering Undip in exploring and developing the potential of new oil and gas mining sites in Kutai and Tarakan Basin.
In this event, a research team from Geological Engineering Undip led by Dr. Ir. Andang Bachtiar, M.Sc presented their findings in front of the team from PT PHE. Exploration Director of PT PHE, Muharram Jaya Panguriseng, stated that this workshop is useful for the development of new oil and gas mining sites that are largely unexplored in several areas in Indonesia, one of which is in Tarakan and Kutai blocks. According to him, oil and gas exploration is important because this sector is the main sector that must be fulfilled immediately, so meetings with the educational institution are important as an effort to fulfill the needs, “National demand on energy must be fulfilled immediately so that the exploration of new oil and gas mining sources are important,” he said.

The effort of PT PHE to collaborate with the Faculty of Engineering Undip in researching the Tarakan and Kutai basins was welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo, M.M, M.Sc, Ph.Dd. He showed his gratitude towards PT PHE for inviting the Geological Engineering Undip as their main partner in this project. As one of the leading Geological Engineering in Indonesia, the quality of the Geological Engineering Undip is very suitable in fulfilling the need of studies from PT PHE. “Geological Engineering has received an A (Excellent) and International accreditation, so please do not hesitate to work together with us,” he said.
In this workshop and kick-off meeting, the team from Geological Engineering Undip presented their findings titled “Kutai & Tarakan Basin Petroleum Geology Insight and New Opportunity.” Prof. Agung hoped that this event can provide benefits for the academicians of the Faculty of Engineering and also can be the beginning of further collaborations between the industry and the Faculty of Engineering in the future, “Thank you for this collaboration. May it be useful, and may it be blessed by God,” he said.
(31/5) The Faculty of Engineering entered into a collaboration with PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE). The signing ceremony was held in the Engineering Hall, Dekanat Building 5th Floor. At this event, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Undip, Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo, M.M, M.Sc, Ph.D, also present with the Senior Manager for East Area Asset Exploration of PT PHE, Arie Naskawan.
The signing of this collaboration is the result of the previous collaboration between Geological Engineering Undip and PT PHE, in which Geological Engineering Undip had the opportunity to do research regarding the development of a new oil and gas mining block in Tarakan and Kutai. This collaboration pact is intended as a legalization effort for the collaboration that not only includes research but also other fields such as educational cooperation and community service.

He hoped that this collaboration between PT PHE and the Faculty of Engineering Undip will not only focus on research related to the development of the mining sites in Tarakan and Kutai Basin but also continue in other fields, especially those related to education and the needs of the academicians in the Faculty of Engineering, such as internship using MBKM (Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka, MBKM, is a program where students can take courses in the form of internship and other forms) scheme. ”I hope that this collaboration is able to enrich the knowledge of the lecturers so that their work will improve, their knowledge will be enhanced, and their students can upgrade their knowledge,” he said.
(30/5) The Department of Computer Engineering (Departemen Teknik Komputer, DTK, or DCE) Undip organized a visiting lecture entitled “Virtual Citizenship” in the Theatre Room, Dekanat Building 4th Floor. In this public lecture, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muzaffar Hamzah from the Faculty of Computer and Informatics Universiti Malaysia Sabah (FCI UMS) was appointed as the main speaker. Rinta Kridalukmana, S.Kom, M.T, Ph.D from DCE Undip was chosen as the moderator for this event.
This visiting lecture event is the result of the cooperation between the Faculty of Engineering Undip and the Faculty of Computer and Informatics UMS which began in 2022. Last year, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muzaffar Hamzah was also invited to give a public lecture in the Department of Computer Engineering. Where in this previous lecture, he presented material together with Dr. Ir. Melinda Nurdin, M.Sc from Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) about the role of computer technology for mental health in the 5.0 era.
Dr. Adian Fatchur Rochim, S.T., M.T. SMIEEE, Head of the Department of Computer Engineering, stated that this visiting lecture is part of a series of collaborations being built by the Department of Computer Engineering and FCI UMS. He also explained that there are four other collaborations that are in process with UMS parties, such as visiting lecture, guest lecture, joint supervision program, and student exchange. “Earlier we (DTK and FCI UMS parties) had agreed on four collaboration agreements before we came into this event. Hopefully, it will be useful for the students and other academicians,” he said.
This visiting lecture event took place with a discussion about what virtual citizenship is and how it is relevant and challenging in this digital era. Hopefully, students will be able to update their knowledge from this visiting lecture.
(22-23/5) Universitas Diponegoro held its 170th Graduation Ceremony at Prof. Soedarto, S.H Building. At this period, the event was divided into 8 parts which ran for 4 days and started from 22 May to 25 May 2023. There were around 2093 graduates that successfully graduated from Universitas Diponegoro in this graduation period, in which 311 of them graduated from the Faculty of Engineering.
The graduates who participated in this 170th graduation came from various study programs, in which the majority coming from the Bachelor Program of Civil Engineering with 54 graduates. In addition, graduates from Graduate programs also graduated along with the graduates from other Undergraduate programs. In this graduation period, the Faculty of Engineering received quite satisfying results. There were 140 graduates who succeeded in getting the cum laude title. Of those 140 cum laude graduates, 107 of them came from undergraduate programs, 29 graduates from master’s programs, and 4 graduates from doctoral programs. In addition, there were 5 graduates who managed to get a double degree, namely Dapit Saputra and Kiki Nidya Stephanie from the Master Program of URP who obtained a double degree from Hiroshima University, and M. Nur Fajri, Ratna Amelia, and Deciana Matiur Ria Napitupulu from Master Program of URP who received a double degree from Technische Universität Berlin.
The Rector of Universitas Diponegoro, Prof. Yos Johan Utama, S.H, M.Hum, had the opportunity to give a speech and message to the graduates at this graduation ceremony. He said that he was very proud of the graduates for completing their studies well. In addition, by quoting a classical Javanese proverb, he advised the graduates to always be humble in society even though they now have received an educational degree. “Lamun sira sekti aja mateni, lamun sira pinter aja minteri, lamun sira banter aja nglancangi (If you are powerful, don’t kill the other, if you are smart, don’t outsmart the other, if you are fast, don’t pass the other)” said Prof. Yos in his remarks.
In this 170th graduation ceremony, the graduates from the Faculty of Engineering have their turn to be graduated for two days, namely Part I until Part III which coincided with 22 – 23 May 2023.
(11/5) The Department of Urban and Regional Planning (URP) Undip together with the Semarang City Government, Brisbane City Council, and The University of Queensland (The UQ) hosted a webinar with the title “Smart City Development in Brisbane and Semarang”. This webinar activity is a continuation of the seminar series held to commemorate the sister-city cooperation between Semarang City and Brisbane City which has been going on for 30 years.
In this webinar, Ms. Susie Clowes from the Asia Pacific City Summit and Ir. Iswar Aminuddin, M.T from the Secretary Government of Semarang City are the speakers who will present the topic about the implementation and development of smart city programs in Semarang and Brisbane. As discussants, Dr. Fred Fialho Teixeira from the School of Architecture, The University of Queensland was appointed along with Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Imam Buchori, S.T from the Department of URP Universitas Diponegoro directed the discussion at the event which was moderated by A/Prof. Sonia Roitman from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, The University of Queensland.
Ir. Hj. Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu, M.Sos, Semarang City Major who at that time was represented by Drs. Muhammad Khadhik, M.Si, delivered the opening remarks in this webinar. In her remarks, she hoped that this seminar series could be a medium for mutual learning and sharing knowledge for both parties in order to develop both cities into strong and resilient smart cities. “I hoped, we can share experiences to make both Semarang and Brisbane become strong and resilient smart cities.”
In addition, Prof. Ambariyanto, the Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation, and Cooperation Affairs of Undip also expressed his gratitude towards the Semarang City Government and Brisbane City Council for the opportunity given to the higher education institution such as Universitas Diponegoro to collaborate together in solving existing urban problems. “Thank you for initiating this collaboration. Hopefully, in the future, we can benefit each other,” Prof. Ambar said.
Prof. Deborah Terry, AO, Vice-Chancellor and President of The University of Queensland, also expressed her pride as an educational institution that joined the City of Brisbane in discussing about urban planning with their Indonesian partners. “The UQ (The University of Queensland) has a global perspective to build the world. Through this collaboration with the Indonesian partners, we hope that this moment can be an opportunity to share knowledge,” she said.
This seminar series was held three times. Where in the first seminar, the topic was disaster management. And in the second seminar, the topic was urban growth and housing. This webinar was held as the closing series of this seminar series.
