(15/6) The Master Program of Civil Engineering organized a public guest lecture titled “Advanced Research in Water Engineering” at the Hall of the Department of Civil Engineering, the Faculty of Engineering Undip. In this public lecture, Prof. Wen Cheng Liu from NUU Taiwan was appointed as the main lecturer along with Dr. Dyah Ari Wulandari, S.T, M.T from the Department of Civil Engineering Undip. Meanwhile, Dr. Ir. Robert J. Kodoatie, M.Eng was chosen as the moderator.
This public lecture is a result of collaboration between the Faculty of Engineering Undip and the National United University Taiwan which has been started since 2022. Prof. Dr. Ir. Suharyanto, M.Sc as the head of the committee for this public lecture showed his gratitude towards the participants and NUU Taiwan for being able to present their research in front of the academics who were present at this public lecture. He hoped this public lecture will be beneficial for the students and the lecturers in the Department of Civil Engineering.
In this public lecture, there were two pieces of research presented. The first research was presented by Prod. Wen Cheng Liu from NUU Taiwan with the title “Image-based Recognition and Processing System for Monitoring Water Levels in an Irrigation and Drainage Channels”. On this occasion, he explained the utilization of technology in monitoring the water level in the irrigation channels for flood control, groundwater management, and maintenance of the ecological environment and habitat conservation.
The next research was presented by Dr. Dyah Ari Wulandari, S.T, M.T from the Department of Civil Engineering Undip. In her presentation titled “Reservoir Operation Policy to Minimize Sedimentation”, she explained the importance of controlling the regulation for reservoir operation in solving sedimentation problems.
This public guest lecture was held for two days, where on the first day the topic focused on the latest research in the field of water engineering, and on the second day the topic was on the development of science in the field of structural systems.
(15/6) The event “SDG Talks Goes to Semarang” was hosted in the Engineering Hall, Dekanat Building 5th Floor. This event is the result of collaboration between the Ministry of Finance, Universitas Diponegoro, SDG Center Undip, and UNDP Indonesia, and aims to introduce the importance of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation in Indonesia. This event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Finance, UNDP Indonesia, Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Labour, Urban Initiatives for Climate Change (IKUPI), Regional Government of Jawa Tengah and Semarang City, as well as the participants from students and NGOs.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the global development agendas that consist of seventeen (17) goals to solve global problems such as poverty, planetary crises, and education. In SDG Talks Goes to Semarang, the main theme was “Financing the SDG’s Decade of Action”. This theme was chosen as an effort to build awareness about the importance of financing and maximum resource mobilization to prepare Indonesia in achieving the SDGs in the Decade of Action which is targeted to be fulfilled in 2030.
According to the Director of Indonesia Government Securities, Ministry of Finance, Deni Ridwan, the effort of the Indonesian government to meet the SDG targets has been constrained by the COVID-19 Pandemic. In fact, Indonesia is still quite behind other countries in achieving the SDGs. Therefore, to pursue this gap, the government needs to adjust its resources to synergize in achieving the SDGs. “Indonesia has the tools and resources in achieving the SDGs. The problem is, how to harmonize these tools and resources to fulfill the SDGs target,” he said.
National Project Manager for Assist Joint Program UNDP Indonesia, Nila Murti, also expressed the same thing. According to her, the Government of Indonesia has shown its commitment to implementing the SDGs. She reminded us that the Government of Indonesia must hurry in achieving the SDGs because Indonesia will be entering the Decade of Actions. “We have entered the Decade of Actions, we have entered the last 10 years. We must hurry now,” she said.
This event was divided into two main sessions. The first session was filled with presentations from the Coordinator of Partnership and Institutional Strengthening of SDG Center Undip, Prof. Dr. -Ing. Wiwandari Handayani, ST, MT, MPS and the Manager of Social Development Pillar of the National Secretary of SDGs Indonesia, Dr. Sanjoyo, M.Sc, S.T, M.T, MPS. The next session was a discussion session that was attended by Putu Surya Dhana from the Ministry of Agriculture, Gilang Amaldi, B.Eng, M.M from the Ministry of Labour, and Mega Anggraeni, S.T, M.Si from IKUPI.
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo, M.M, M.Sc, Ph.D, welcomed this event. For him, this event was in line with the implementation of the Threefold Missions of Higher Education (Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi) because it provides education related to SDGs for the participants, especially for the students, so that later they can be well prepared in the professional world. “This event was held so that all students can understand quickly so that later when they entered the professional world they will not be too ‘confused’ with the SDGs topics,” he said.
(14/6) The Faculty of Engineering Undip was visited by Curtin University. The visitation event took place in the Senate Room, Dekanat Building 3rd Floor. At this event, the Deputy Dean of Research and Development and Director of Curtin Malaysia Graduate School, Prof. Agus Saptoro, was present with Ms. Patricia Kelly from Global Curtin as the representative from Curtin University.
This visit is a follow-up to the previous cooperation initiatives that had been successfully held between the Faculty of Engineering Undip and Curtin University. Besides, the International Office team of the Faculty of Engineering, the heads of the study programs, and the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) students were also invited to listen to the presentation of a new mobility scheme offered by Curtin University to the Faculty of Engineering, two of which are Double Degree program and International Credit Transfer.
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo, M.M, M.Sc, Ph.D, welcomed the visit from Curtin University this time. According to him, the visit from the Faculty of Engineering’s overseas partners is a good moment for students to prepare themselves to study at one of the best universities in Australia. For him, the International Undergraduate Program students can fulfill their obligation to get international exposure at Curtin University. “For the IUP students, it is mandatory to get international exposure. If there is an opportunity to study at Curtin, seize it,” he said.
Up to now, the Faculty of Engineering has collaborated with Curtin University in several fields, including research and education. This can be seen from the success of the Double Degree program held by the Department of URP and the Department of Chemical Engineering together with Curtin University. During this visit, Prof. Agung also hoped that wider collaboration opportunities could be realized in the future. “Hopefully in the future, we can do other collaborations, such as capacity building for the lecturer and staff as well as other Double Degree and Credit Transfer Systems with other departments,” he said.
The representative from Curtin University, Prof. Agus Saptoro, also thanked the Faculty of Engineering Undip. According to him, Undip is one of Curtin University’s strategic partners in the Southeast Asia Region. As a strategic partner, it is appropriate for Curtin University to keep the relationship that has been created by conducting follow-ups to check how far the collaboration that has been agreed upon is running. He hoped the collaboration between Curtin University and the Faculty of Engineering can run well. “Let us change the competitions into collaborations,” he said.
(9/6) The Faculty of Engineering in collaboration with Pertamina held a public lecture with the theme “Transformation and Development of Human Resources with AKHLAK Values”. This public lecture was held at the Engineering Hall, Dekanat Building 5th Floor, and was attended by students from various departments in the Faculty of Engineering.
The event was opened by remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo, M.M, M.Sc, Ph.D. In his remarks, he appreciated Pertamina’s openness to collaborate with the Faculty of Engineering up to now. In addition, he also gave a motivational speech for the students who participated in this public lecture to adapt themselves to competing at the international level. He explained that this public lecture was held as a means to help students develop themselves. “Ask as much as you want in this public lecture. Make this public lecture a precious moment,” he said in front of the students of the Faculty of Engineering.
After the opening remarks from the Dean, the event was then continued with a public lecture delivered by the Director of Human Resources of Pertamina, Ir. M. Erry Sugiharto, S.T, M.T, M.H. In his lecture, he made a presentation about how the transformation and development of human resources in Pertamina run over the years. For him, the development of human resources is very important because it related to the sustainability of a company. By applying AKHLAK values, a company like Pertamina can maintain the quality of its workers so that they can provide the best work.
At the end of his presentation, M. Erry Sugiharto showed his gratitude towards the Faculty of Engineering for giving him an opportunity to deliver a lecture about the development of human resources management in Pertamina. He hoped that his lecture can be useful for the participants who attended this event, “Hopefully this presentation can be useful,” he said.
(9/6) The Department of Computer Engineering held the Final Project Expo for the second time in the newly-built Computer Laboratory. In this expo, there were 14 teams that participated and presented their Final Projects in front of the audience. As in the first Final Project Expo, the students who participated in this expo came from final semester students who were grouped in a team and were assigned one problem to solve as their Final Project. This final project itself is one of the requirements for graduating from the Department of Computer Engineering.
Patricia Evericho Mountaines, S.T., M.Cs, the coordinator for the Final Project Expo program, said that this expo was intended as a platform for the students to showcase their abilities in front of the public. “(This expo) is a platform for the students to show off their abilities. The goal is that their abilities can be seen by the public,” said the Computer Engineering lecturer.
In her view, there are a lot of students who actually have skills that are in line with the needs of the industry nowadays. But the existing Final Project Seminar format often makes their works less exposed. From this expo, it is hoped that students will not only help various stakeholders through their Final Projects but also helps them to build their confidence to dare to show off in front of the public that they have great potential. “there are actually a lot of good student works whose stakeholders is not only from the educational institution but also from the government and private sectors. Hopefully, this event can help students build good communication, get a lot of feedback, and improve our credibility,” she said.
The visitors felt that this expo was very useful for them. Muhammad Salman Alfarisi, one of the visitors said that this expo made him more enthusiastic in preparing his Final Project. “When I saw the expo, I became more excited. Moreover, I have just enrolled into the Capstone program (the Final Project preparation program from the Department of Computer Engineering Undip). I can use this expo as a reference, motivation, and support for me to finish my Final Project,” he said.
Erlin Sofia Sitohang also shared the similar opinion. As a final semester student, she was motivated when she saw her friends presenting their Final Project ar the expo. “I became motivated to catch up with the others to finish (the Final Project),” Erlin said.
The Final project expo itself ran for one day, and was attended by students and other academicians. Hopefully, this expo can be continued in the future and be beneficial for the various parties involved.
(5/6) The Faculty of Engineering Undip officially dispatched the Antawirya team to take part in this year’s eco-friendly car competitions. The launching ceremony was held in the Dekanat Building 1st Floor and was attended by representatives from the Department of Mechanical Engineering Undip, the Faculty of Engineering Undip, and the Directorate of Academic, Students, and Alumni Affairs Undip.
Antawirya is a research team under the student executive board of mechanical engineering (Himpunan Mahasiswa Mesin/HMM Undip) that focused on eco-friendly car research. Antawirya planned to participate in two major competitions, named Shell Eco-Marathon 2023 which will be held at Mandalika International Circuit on 4-9 July 2023, and Kontes Mobil Hemat Energi 2023 (Energy-Efficient Car Contest 2023) organized by Pusat Prestasi Nasional (Puspresnas, National Achievement Center) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (MoECRT) on 11-18 October 2023.
Vinsensius Farel, the General Manager of Antawirya explained that there are two prototypes developed by the Antawirya team, named Gentayu and Rondhan. Gentayu is an eco-friendly gasoline-fueled car that uses a modified engine with a capacity of 125 cc and is able to accelerate up to 75 km/h. Meanwhile, Rondhan is an electric car that uses a BLDC Motor system and weighs 25 kg. These two prototypes had previously won many awards, including winning 4th place in Urban Internal Combustion Engine category for Asia Region in Shell Eco-Marathon 2022.
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo, M.M, M.Sc, Ph.D, is fully supporting the Antawirya team. He said that the Faculty of Engineering is ready to facilitate all the needs of the students who want to conduct research, especially those related to the development of eco-friendly technology. He hoped that the Antawirya team can achieve satisfactory results, “I hoped that they (Antawirya) can get the best results,” he said.
Hanifa M. Denny, S.KM, MPH, Ph.D, the Director of Academic, Students, and Alumni Affairs Undip, also gave her support to the Antawirya team. According to her, what the Antawirya team has done will not only make Undip or the Faculty of Engineering proud but also make Indonesian proud at the International level. “From here we prove that Indonesia has pride, Indonesia has integrity,” she said.
