Universitas Diponegoro Collaborates with Korea-Indonesia MTCRC to Develop Marine Science and Technology

(14/7) Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) signed a cooperation agreement with Korea-Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC). The signing ceremony was held at the Rector’s Conference Room, Widya Puraya Building 2nd Floor, Undip Tembalang Campus. At this event, the Rector of Universitas Diponegoro, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H, M.Hum, was present as the representative from Undip to sign the Memorandum of Agreement related to the cooperation in the academics and research field with representatives from MTCRC represented by Dr. Hansan Park and Ivonne Milichristi Radjawane, Ph.D.

MTCRC, also known in Indonesia as PPKTK (Pusat Penelitian dan Kerjasama Teknologi Kelautan), is a joint research center established by the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) on behalf of the Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries (MOF) of the Republic of Korea and Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) on behalf of the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment (CMMAI) of the Republic of Indonesia. This research center focuses on developing research in the field of marine science and technology between Korea and Indonesia.

According to Dr. Hansan Park, one of the representatives from MTCRC, Undip was chosen as one of the partners by MTCRC because of its reputation for having a good academic reputation and producing high-quality graduates. “MTCRC currently has 25 staff, 5 of them are Undip alumni. MTCRC also has an Advisory Board, one of them is Undip alumni. This important representation from Undip strengthens our belief that collaboration with this University will bring great benefits in advancing the Indonesia Maritime sector,” he explained.

The Rector of Undip, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H, M.Hum, also welcomed this collaboration. For him, this collaboration aligns with the vision of Undip as an Excellent Research University at the International level. “Undip pays great attention to increasing the number of scientific research in specific fields to achieve our vision as a World Class Excellent Research University,” Prof. Yos said.

At this signing ceremony, several Deans from the Faculty/School in Undip were also present. One of them is the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. According to Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo, M.M, M.Sc, Ph.D, as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, this collaboration is an excellent opportunity for the Faculty of Engineering considering that currently the Faculty of Engineering already has several collaborations with several higher education institutions (HEI) in Korea. “We have several links with universities in Korea, such as Pukyong National University. We have been working for years with them and until now the collaboration is still close,” he said.

Prof. Agung hoped, with this collaboration the Faculty of Engineering could participate in initiating educational collaborations, especially in the maritime field, where the Faculty of Engineering itself has one department that focuses on studies in this field, namely the Department of Naval Architecture. “Because it is related to maritime matters, I also said what is the department (in the Faculty) that related (with MTCRC) on that event, that is Naval Architecture. We can initiate a collaboration there,” he said.

Those three students are Adieba Luthfia from the Undergraduate Program of Environmental Engineering, Bening Laksa Intan from the Master Program of Environmental Engineering, and Denny Hendrik from the Master Program of Environmental Engineering. They received scholarships from JASSO (Japan Student Services Association) and the World Class University (WCU) scheme from Universitas Diponegoro to be able to do study and research for three months at TUT.

This program is the result of collaboration between Universitas Diponegoro, Toyohashi University of Technology, and JASSO in providing opportunities for students to experience studying and doing research in Japan. The Department of Environmental Engineering Undip itself sent its students for the first time to take part in this program in 2022, and currently, there are four batches that have been delegated to study at TUT from the Department of Environmental Engineering Undip.

Adieba Luthfia, one of the awardees said that she first learned about this program from her friend who was a part of the group sent to TUT in the previous period. For this program, she said that she had to go through two stages of the selection process, namely document screening, and interview,” I know this program since last year because one of my friends went to Japan through this program. To be able to join this program, I had to go through two selection processes, namely document screening, and interview.”

She added that while at TUT she will be a short-term visiting international student, where she will study as an international student for three months. Different states were experienced by other two students from the Master Program, where they were chosen to be the special research students who will focus on conducting research in TUT’s laboratory under the supervision of a professor from TUT, Prof. Takanobu Inoue. “In this program, I will be a short-term visiting international student and the other two Master’s students of the Department of Environmental Engineering will be the special research students,” she said.

This program starts on 5 July and ends on 27 September. As in the previous period, the awardees will undergo several activities such as research, class, lab seminar, and many other study activities. The Department of URP Sent Its IUP Student Again to Join the Double Degree Program at Curtin University

The Department of URP Sent Its IUP Student Again to Join the Double Degree Program at Curtin University

(27/6) The International Undergraduate Program (IUP) of the Department of URP Undip sent again one of their students to join the double degree program at Curtin University. A student named Reyhan Wisnu Aliandri from IUP of the Department of URP, class of 2021, successfully got the opportunity to continue his study and obtain a double degree at the university that was ranked 183rd in the world.

This double degree program itself is the result of the collaboration between the Faculty of Engineering Undip and Curtin University which started since 2018. For now, there are two departments in the Faculty of Engineering Undip that offer the opportunity to pursue this double degree program through the International Undergraduate Program (IUP), which is the Department of URP and the Department of Chemical Engineering. The Department of URP itself has ever sent its students to participate in this program, where three of their students from the IUP program of URP went to Curtin University to continue their study in 2022.

This year, Reyhan Wisnu Aliandri is the only student from IUP of URP who will undergo a double degree program at Curtin University. Reyhan himself is grateful because he got the opportunity through the IUP program. He said that he initially chose the IUP in the Department of URP Undip because he learned that the international partners of the Department of URP are world-leading universities, such as Curtin University. “I didn’t know what IUP was for the first time. When I saw the IUP program in Undip, I learned about the partners for the IUP program, one of which was Curtin. That’s why I was interested in enrolling in this program,” he said.

As an IUP student of the Department of URP, Reyhan shared how the IUP program provides many opportunities to learn with international standards. He admitted that while in the IUP program of URP, he had many opportunities to study with international students, such as through Summer Courses, Joint Studios, and Double Degrees. “I enrolled in the IUP program of URP to be able to study with international standards. My parents also fully support that. Here I have the privilege to join several international programs such as Summer Course, Joint Studio, and Double Degree,” said Reyhan.

He advised the IUP students who are interested in enrolling in the double degree program at Curtin University to prepare the necessary files such as IELTS. In addition, he also advised the IUP students to look for information related to the double degree program independently, and always maintain communication with their parents. “Tips from me, prepare for the IELTS test well. For this test you have to study, so you have to keep your spirits up and keep motivating yourself. Then, you have to look for the information by yourself. Lastly, keep communicating with your parents.”

Reyhan was scheduled to arrive and begin his orientation period at Curtin University on 17th July. He hoped that with his achievement, there are many IUP students from the Department of URP who were interested in joining in a similar program. Moreover, he also hoped that the IUP of the Department of URP could provide more international programs for their student. “Hopefully in the future, there will be more international programs from the IUP of URP Undip so that there will be more interaction with foreign students. Hopefully, the IUP of URP will be more successful, have more students, and have more fun,” said Reyhan.
