Two Study Programs in the Faculty of Engineering Undip Successfully Obtain the Excellent Predicate from LAM Teknik

This time, the Faculty of Engineering Undip received good news. Two of its Study Programs have now obtained the “Excellent” predicate from LAM Teknik. The two Study Programs are the Doctoral Program of Mechanical Engineering and the Master Program of Civil Engineering. Those two Study Programs received the Excellent predicate after getting only the B predicate in the previous period. This accreditation achievement is quite a precious achievement for the Faculty of Engineering, considering that the mission of this faculty to become an excellent research campus in Indonesia only can be achieved by providing quality education with excellent standards.

The Indonesian Accreditation Agency for Higher Education in Engineering (LAM Teknik) itself is an independent accreditation agency run by the Institution of Engineers Indonesia (PII) and is tasked to execute the accreditation process for every engineering study programs in Indonesia. In this accreditation, the Doctoral Program of Mechanical Engineering managed to score 371 points, while the Master Program of Civil Engineering managed to score 375 points. With these points, the two study programs are eligible to obtain the Excellent predicate which is valid until 20 April 2028.

The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo, M.M, M.Sc, Ph.D, was proud of this accreditation achievement. For him, the success of the Faculty of Engineering in managing good governance and the strong and reliable human resources management are the main keys to the success of those two Study Programs in obtaining the “Excellent” predicate. “For us, good governance is the backbone for our quality assurance. Good governance is the core, and behind it are the strong and reliable human resources,” he said regarding this success.

He hoped this achievement can improve the implementation of the threefold mission of higher education (tri dharma) in the Faculty of Engineering so that it could be even better. Besides that, the improvement of the governance as shown by the achievements in obtaining national and international standard certifications such as the national and international higher education accreditation and the ISO certification can be a trigger for every department and unit that is working under the Faculty of Engineering to improve and maintain this excellent quality.

Mrs. Titik Istirokhatun, S.T, M.Sc., Ph.D. was chosen as the moderator for this open lecture. This lecture is not only attended by academics and students from the Department of Environmental Engineering but also by related studies such as the Department of Biology.

This program was a form of commitment from the Department of Environmental Engineering to fulfill the need to provide the best education for its students that is in line with the obligation to meet the IKU requirements (Indikator Kinerja Utama, or Key Performance Indicators, every department and unit must reach the minimum limits in each indicator).  Besides that, this program also becomes the forum to disseminate research in the field of microbiology and its role in wastewater treatment used in developed countries like Germany, and how to apply it in Indonesia. “What are these basics good for? That’s for the lecturers and the stakeholders in respective professional organizations,” Prof. Gallert uttered the goal of the study in her lecture.

The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wbowo, M.M, M.Sc, Ph.D, delivered opening remarks in this lecture. He expressed his gratitude towards the opportunity given to the Faculty of Engineering to hear a lecture from an expert that comes from a country that had better technologies and knowledge. He hoped that their attendance in the Faculty of Engineering can be a positive chance to enhance the knowledge that had been developed here. He also hoped that the Faculty of Engineering can bond a tighter relationship with foreign parties like the University of Applied Science Emden Leer.

Dr. Ing. Sudarno, S.T., M.Sc, the Head of the Department of Environmental Engineering, expressed his satisfaction with this program. He said that this program not only broadens the student’s understanding related to the topic discussed in the class, but also introduced the new advancement in the technology for wastewater treatment in front of the students. His presence was warmly welcomed by the participants and the visitors who attended the Final Project Expo.

Previously, the Final Project Capstone is a program developed from the Individual Final Project Assessment which was obligatory for every student in the Department of Computer Engineering in order to be graduated from the department. In this Final Project Capstone, three students will be grouped into one team and given an actual problem to be solved. The problems that become the starting point for the Final Project were taken from the real problems that are currently happening in the business world. The aim of this Capstone is for the students to gain practical experience before they graduate so that the knowledge gained during college can be applied to the real business world and generate a top-grade graduate.

In this event that accommodates the innovative works from the Computer Engineering students, there are at least 6 works displayed at the Final Project Expo this month. These six Final Projects are the IoT-based Accreditation Document Searching System using RFID, LPG Order and Monitoring Information System, Marine Safety Management Information System (SIMASKESPEL), the Personnel Information System, “’PANGGONAN APP” Application for Place Searching around Undip Tembalang, and Automated System for Student Data Collection on Undip Food Trucks.

Dimas Rafi, one of the participants at this Final Project Expo, said that he was happy because he managed to complete the program that he was working on with his teammates on time. “Luckily we were able to meet the deadline and take part in the Expo this March,” said Dimas representing his teammates. He also expressed his gratitude because his stand was visited by the Dean personally. He and his team felt very grateful because they were appreciated by the top management at the Faculty of Engineering.

This event provides inspiration for every visitor who comes. Rama Weihan Aryasuta, one of the visitors, said that he was inspired to be able to create useful technology. “I am happy to be able to see and try the works of my senior directly. I also can ask them about their process in finding the right research sites and how they initially decided to choose their Final Project topics, said Rama.

In the future, It is hoped that this Final Project Expo can be continued and can provide enthusiasm for the students of the Department of Computer Engineering Undip to continue working and innovating in making the right and beneficial technologies for society.
