Wednesday, September 23, 2026, the Faculty of Engineering Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) conducted a workshop event titled “Smart Research with AI: Mapping Scopus Literature and Developing Research Ideas Using NotebookLM and Generative AI.” The event took place in the Engineering Hall, 5th floor of the Prof. Ir. Eko Budihardjo, M.Sc. building.
The activity was attended by faculty members and graduate students in order to enhance academic skills in mapping scientific literature and designing research ideas effectively based on artificial intelligence.
The event itself was opened by the vice dean of academic affairs and student affairs, Prof. Ir. Nita Aryanti, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., IPM., ASEAN Eng. In her speech, Prof. Nita emphasized that this training is projected as a periodic program to accompany students in completing their studies on time.
“This activity is the beginning of a series of scheduled activities that we will conduct for master’s and doctoral students aimed at accelerating their studies. So if you want to graduate on time, you have to contribute good publications,” he said.
The current development of AI technology is capable of helping academics in organizing their research more effectively. However, adequate guidance is needed when using this technology to avoid unintended consequences.
“We cannot deny that AI has developed significantly in these circumstances.” The problem is, we are not active toward AI. We need to utilize the technology that supports us. However, its use must indeed be wise,” he added.
The Vice Dean of Resources, Prof. Dr. Purnawan Adi Wicaksono, S.T., M.T., also added that the publication targets that must be achieved currently are quite high. With this training, it is hoped that lecturers and students can increase the number of research projects more effectively and efficiently.
“The program from the university that we are implementing targets each lecturer to have one Scopus publication. And we estimate that we have around 310 lecturers. We then calculated that when it is implemented, we need to facilitate them in the Faculty of Engineering,” said Prof. Purnawan.
This workshop features Dr. M. Danny Pratama Lamura, S.Pd., M.T., a lecturer at UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur, as the main speaker. During the training session, participants were guided in practice to optimize two main platforms, NotebookLM and Generative AI, to develop research proposal schemes and systematically process literature references.
Through this event, the Faculty of Engineering Undip reaffirms its commitment to continuously adopt technological innovations in the academic climate. It is hoped that the wise and directed integration of AI will not only facilitate the preparation of scientific works but also encourage the improvement of the quality and quantity of internationally reputable research within the campus environment.
