(9/6) The Department of Computer Engineering held the Final Project Expo for the second time in the newly-built Computer Laboratory. In this expo, there were 14 teams that participated and presented their Final Projects in front of the audience. As in the first Final Project Expo, the students who participated in this expo came from final semester students who were grouped in a team and were assigned one problem to solve as their Final Project. This final project itself is one of the requirements for graduating from the Department of Computer Engineering.

Patricia Evericho Mountaines, S.T., M.Cs, the coordinator for the Final Project Expo program, said that this expo was intended as a platform for the students to showcase their abilities in front of the public. “(This expo) is a platform for the students to show off their abilities. The goal is that their abilities can be seen by the public,” said the Computer Engineering lecturer.

In her view, there are a lot of students who actually have skills that are in line with the needs of the industry nowadays. But the existing Final Project Seminar format often makes their works less exposed. From this expo, it is hoped that students will not only help various stakeholders through their Final Projects but also helps them to build their confidence to dare to show off in front of the public that they have great potential. “there are actually a lot of good student works whose stakeholders is not only from the educational institution but also from the government and private sectors. Hopefully, this event can help students build good communication, get a lot of feedback, and improve our credibility,” she said.

The visitors felt that this expo was very useful for them. Muhammad Salman Alfarisi, one of the visitors said that this expo made him more enthusiastic in preparing his Final Project. “When I saw the expo, I became more excited. Moreover, I have just enrolled into the Capstone program (the Final Project preparation program from the Department of Computer Engineering Undip). I can use this expo as a reference, motivation, and support for me to finish my Final Project,” he said.

Erlin Sofia Sitohang also shared the similar opinion. As a final semester student, she was motivated when she saw her friends presenting their Final Project ar the expo. “I became motivated to catch up with the others to finish (the Final Project),” Erlin said.

The Final project expo itself ran for one day, and was attended by students and other academicians. Hopefully, this expo can be continued in the future and be beneficial for the various parties involved.
