(15/6) The event “SDG Talks Goes to Semarang” was hosted in the Engineering Hall, Dekanat Building 5th Floor. This event is the result of collaboration between the Ministry of Finance, Universitas Diponegoro, SDG Center Undip, and UNDP Indonesia, and aims to introduce the importance of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation in Indonesia. This event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Finance, UNDP Indonesia, Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Labour, Urban Initiatives for Climate Change (IKUPI), Regional Government of Jawa Tengah and Semarang City, as well as the participants from students and NGOs.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the global development agendas that consist of seventeen (17) goals to solve global problems such as poverty, planetary crises, and education. In SDG Talks Goes to Semarang, the main theme was “Financing the SDG’s Decade of Action”. This theme was chosen as an effort to build awareness about the importance of financing and maximum resource mobilization to prepare Indonesia in achieving the SDGs in the Decade of Action which is targeted to be fulfilled in 2030.

According to the Director of Indonesia Government Securities, Ministry of Finance, Deni Ridwan, the effort of the Indonesian government to meet the SDG targets has been constrained by the COVID-19 Pandemic. In fact, Indonesia is still quite behind other countries in achieving the SDGs. Therefore, to pursue this gap, the government needs to adjust its resources to synergize in achieving the SDGs. “Indonesia has the tools and resources in achieving the SDGs. The problem is, how to harmonize these tools and resources to fulfill the SDGs target,” he said.

National Project Manager for Assist Joint Program UNDP Indonesia, Nila Murti, also expressed the same thing. According to her, the Government of Indonesia has shown its commitment to implementing the SDGs. She reminded us that the Government of Indonesia must hurry in achieving the SDGs because Indonesia will be entering the Decade of Actions. “We have entered the Decade of Actions, we have entered the last 10 years. We must hurry now,” she said.

This event was divided into two main sessions. The first session was filled with presentations from the Coordinator of Partnership and Institutional Strengthening of SDG Center Undip, Prof. Dr. -Ing. Wiwandari Handayani, ST, MT, MPS and the Manager of Social Development Pillar of the National Secretary of SDGs Indonesia, Dr. Sanjoyo, M.Sc, S.T, M.T, MPS. The next session was a discussion session that was attended by Putu Surya Dhana from the Ministry of Agriculture, Gilang Amaldi, B.Eng, M.M from the Ministry of Labour, and Mega Anggraeni, S.T, M.Si from IKUPI.

The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo, M.M, M.Sc, Ph.D, welcomed this event. For him, this event was in line with the implementation of the Threefold Missions of Higher Education (Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi) because it provides education related to SDGs for the participants, especially for the students, so that later they can be well prepared in the professional world. “This event was held so that all students can understand quickly so that later when they entered the professional world they will not be too ‘confused’ with the SDGs topics,” he said.
