The Department of Industrial Engineering Undip Held Summer Course, Raising Concern about Sustainability for a Better Future

The Department of Industrial Engineering Undip held a Summer Course program entitled “Sustainable Product: Innovation for a Better Future”. This event was held online and offline on 22 – 24 July 2025.

This program is a part of the World Class University program, an initiative from Universitas Diponegoro to achieve its goal of reaching the top 500 universities in the world. This program is expected to attract more international students to join as part-time or full-time students at Undip.

In this Summer Course program, there were around 70 participants who joined online or offline. The participants came from various countries, including Pakistan, Nigeria, India, Ghana, Kenya, Botswana, Palestine, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Madagascar, and France. For Wiwik Budiawan, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., the coordinator of this program, this activity is an important platform to build cross-cultural scientific networks.

“We believe that this summer course is not just an academic activity, but also a platform to build scientific diplomacy and a cross-cultural network,” he said.

This Summer Course was attended by a total of 70 online and offline participants. Some of them are from several countries, like Pakistan, Nigeria, India, Ghana, Kenya, Botswana, Palestine, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Madagascar, and France
In this Summer Course, participants not only learning the materials in the class. They also had the opportunity to visit LIK Takaru industrial area in Tegal

This Summer Course consists of three main sessions, namely lecture class, industrial visits, and city tour. In the lecture session, participants learn about various topics related to current industrial engineering issues, such as green ergonomics, smart energy, sustainable design, innovation, and artificial intelligence.

The speakers also came from various renowned institutions, including Prof. Dr.Ing. Novie Susanto, S.T., M.Eng. and Prof. Dr. Ir. Ratna Purwaningsih, S.T., M.T., IPU., ASEAN Eng. from Undip Industrial Engineering, Prof. Shuo-Yan Chou from NTUST, Taiwan, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hendro Wicaksono from Constructor University, Germany, and Dr. Ir. Bambang Purwanggono.

In the industrial visit, offline participants visited the LIK Takaru small and medium-sized industrial area in Tegal. On this visit, participants had the opportunity to observe directly the application of sustainability principles in the local manufacturing sector. After visiting the industry, participants were going to tour and exchange cultures in Semarang Old City.

The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamari, S.T., M.T., IPU., ASEAN Eng., praised this summer course. He stated that this event is an implementation of the Faculty’s commitment to build a global academic network.

“Through this activity, Undip demonstrates its commitment to building global academic networks and creating a real impact on environmental issues and green industri.”
