(21/9) In order to improve their educational cooperation with their international partners, the Department of Chemical Engineering accepts one foreign student to hold an internship in their laboratory. A student named Wu Ssu-Hsien from the Department of Chemical Engineering, National Chung Hsing University (NCHU), Taiwan, had the opportunity to participate in an internship program for one month in the Advanced Material Laboratory under the Department of Chemical Engineering Undip.
Prof. Dr-Ing. Silviana, S.T, M.T, IPM, ASEAN Eng, professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering Undip and the supervisor of this internship program said that this program is a part of the World Class University (WCU) program involving two institutions, namely the Faculty of Engineering Undip and the College of Engineering, NCHU. In this WCU Program, one of the outputs produced is joint research. To support the research, the Department of Chemical Engineering Undip as the organizer of the WCU program invited one student from NCHU to conduct an internship that began on 21 August.
Wu Ssu-Hsien, the student who participated in this internship program, said that this program provided a lot of new experiences for him. As a foreigner, he said that he had never come and stayed abroad for a long time before. With this internship program, Mr. Wu said, he was able to experience what it is like to live and conduct research in a place that is culturally different from his homeland country. “The culture here is different from other countries. I really like it,” he said.
In this internship program, Mr. Wu and Prof. Silviana developed a distillation column design to stimulate the acetone mixture separation. He hoped that the research he conducted during this internship could provide satisfactory results thus helping the research currently being developed by Prof. Silviana. “I will do my best to help Prof. Silvi. I have a very good experience here. I think I have a good chance to do it (internship) here. I really appreciate it,” Mr. Wu said.
