(9/7) Antawirya Undip successfully achieved satisfactory results at the international environmental-friendly car contest titled Shell Eco-Marathon Asia-Pacific and the Middle East 2023. In the competition that took place at the Mandalika International Circuit on 4-9 July 2023, Antawirya Team won third place in two categories, namely Urban Internal Combustion Engine and Prototype Electric Vehicle.
Shell Eco-Marathon 2023 itself is a competition for engineering students that involves universities around the world. This competition consists of regional and final rounds, with the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East regional round held in Indonesia. In this competition, 40 teams from various countries in the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East region were assigned to compete for their ultra-efficient vehicle designs in two main categories, namely Prototype and Urban Concept. From those two categories, each team had to choose one of three fuel types used as the subcategories, which are the electric battery (Electric Vehicle category), hydrogen cell, and Internal Combustion Engine (using gasoline). This year, Antawirya prepared two cars to participate: Rondhan for the Prototype Electric Vehicle category and Gentayu for the Urban Internal Combustion Engine category.
Andra Maulana, Manager for Internal Combustion Engine Development at Antawirya said that the success of Antawirya team this year cannot be separated from the evaluation of the latest performance of Antawirya in the same competition last year. He added that for this year their achievements had improved, whereas in the previous year, they only got fourth place in one category, namely the Urban Internal Combustion Engine category. “We already have experience in Shell Eco-Marathon in the previous year. Where we were in fourth place. So this year we made several advancements. In the engine, we use a lot of manufactured engine parts. Then for the chassis and steering, we also made some innovations. So thank God alhamdulillah this year we can get the third place,” he said.
Rafli Alamsyah, Manager for Electric Vehicle Development at Antawirya said he was grateful that for this year Antawirya team was able to secure a position in two categories. He said that Antawirya team is determined to improve its achievements in the next competition. “From ourselves, we still want to improve our achievement. We are still in the third position. Our main target for the next year is to become Regional Champion and participate in the Driver World Championship,” Rafli said.
Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo, M.M, M.Sc, Ph.D hoped that Antawirya team is able to spread their success in this competition to other students. “For me, it is necessary to encourage the spirit of competition to other students. The success of Antawirya team is the result of long-term efforts. Hopefully, it can be transmitted to their juniors,” he said.
