“RURAL, LOCAL ECONOMIC, AND SME CLUSTER DEVELOPMENT”
On last September 19-20, 2011, Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Engineering Faculty, Diponegoro University has carried out the 2nd RRPG International Workshop and Meeting of “Rural, Local Economic, and SME Cluster Development” in Semarang, Indonesia. The Workshop is supported also by RRPG, Provincial Government of Central Java Indonesia, Magister Program of Urban and Regional Development and Center for Participatory Planning – P5 of Diponegoro University, as well Urban and Regional Planning Department and Center for Innovative Planning Development – CIPD of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
The workshop was followed 42 participants from 6 countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, UK, Japan, Germany/Vietnam, US); 13 universities (UNDIP, UTM, Oxford, APU, UCL, USM, ITB, UGM, UNISBA, UNIKA, VGU, UNNES, UNS); 2 International Development Agencies (GIZ, CIDA/Canadian Embassy); 3 CSO (YKKS, Pusbangdaya, DLI); 5 Government/semi government bodies (FPESD, BPMD, BALITBANG, BAPPEDA, Disperindag of Central Java Province). About 15 presentations were presented in 3 sessions of Workshop. There are many experiences and ideas shared and discussed while the workshop sessions.
On second day, it was continued with field visit to SME and rural area surrounding of Borobudur Temple. In the field, participants visited 2 handycraft SME of Borobudur tourism cluster. The explanation and testimony was presented by Bappeda Magelang District and Head of Borobudur cluster forum. Thanks to field partners for all the arrangements. Participants were also visit the Borobudur temple, and village walk tracking on the next morning.
By the networking meeting, it also has agreement the next 3rd meeting of RRPG will be in Malaysia that will be arranged by USM and UTM. The topic of next meeting is about Local Economic Development – LED. Other agendas are also included publications, collaboration research, and prepare RRPG website.
